Lee-Park Eun Young

With the assurance of a shamanic gesture, Lee-Park Eun Young shapes her works more than she paints them. What we see in her large compositions, the subjects and patterns that our gaze detects in this abstraction, are the fruit of this gesture.

With extreme concentration, with deep application, Eun Young composes on the canvas with the earth. A raw and fundamental material. Through the movement of the drawing, she brings the degree of mastery that Art requires. The pigments, vectors of color, complete her thought and execution. Her breath.

Then comes the water that the painter pours with the same assurance. Like a gesture of devotion for the canvas. Bringing the touch of alchemy necessary for chance to take place. This is summoned when Eun Young gives the painting the movements that she improvises in her inspiration of the moment. Which are as much telluric tremors as dance.

Finally entrusting to the air, to the wind, to the calm, the care of fixing forever the colors, the lights. As well as the prodigious lines. The patient wait gives the final turn to paintings as graceful as they are luminous. Illuminated. Because such are the works of Lee-Park Eun Young that we present in this exhibition.

It is the very essence of an authentically Korean artistic thought to give to the elements, natural, a central place. It is just as much a Korean spirit to balance with precision the demanding mastery of the gesture and the absolute reverence for chance.

The works of Eun Young carry the offering of a radiant beauty of light. Of an exquisite taste for light hues. Multiple blues that extend in a subtle range to celadon. Color so emblematic of a secular Korean art. And the artist is admirable in his science to reveal them completely. By making them coexist with deep blacks and browns, also arranged in nuances. Those of earth, fire and combustion.

The illumination that Lee-Park Eun Young's works bring us is today a promise. That for our public of collectors to have the privilege of accessing a rare art. Drawing its soul from a venerable tradition and yet from a completely new and contemporary aesthetic.

An Art as exciting as the artistic and cultural light that Korea offers us.

__________
1 In October 2023, on the occasion of the Fusion exhibition by the artist Chae Sung-Pil, Mr. Maël Bellec, curator of the Cernuschi Museum, did us the friendship and honor of revealing to the public, during a conference, the primordial role of the "five elements" in Korean art. This is an essential reading key in our choice for Korean works that we wish to present in all their authenticity.

2 The “secret color” evoked by Chinese artists from the Song era, admiring Korean ceramists. Indeed, if the Chinese had developed the color and the technique, they admire that the Koguryo craftsmen had surpassed them. Celadon remained a Korean “identity” in the following periods, from the Chosŏn era to the 20th century. And it is, we believe, an artistic reference that continues.
